Beilstein Software Downloads

In order to search the Beilstein database, you need to install MDL CrossFire Commander 7 software. Software downloads are available here for computers running Windows 2000 or XP only.

The software functions at on-campus computers only. If you are using a computer on campus, follow the steps below to properly install the software.

Please note: When you click on the links to download the software, you will be asked for a username and password. Enter uni-tenn for the username and xs87df for the password.

MDL CrossFire Commander 7 for Windows (2000/XP)

1. Print these instructions before downloading the software.
2. Important! You must be logged into your computer with an account that has administrative privileges in order to install this software.
3. The following programs are contained in the zip file for distribution: Commander 7, Chimie 2.6, ISIS Draw 2.5, LitLink 2.0, and MDL Draw 1.2 NET. Download beilstein.zip (48 MB) and save to your desktop.
4. You need a program such as WinZip (1.3 MB) to extract the files from beilstein.zip. Double-click on beilstein.zip to launch your zip program. Extract the files to your desktop according to your zip program's instructions. The files are extracted to a folder labeled, Crossfire Commander 7.
5. Close all programs before beginning the installation process.
6. Find the file, InstShell.exe, in the Crossfire Commander 7 folder. Double-click on it to initiate the installation.
7. Click the Install Commander button and follow the instructions.
8. When the installation is complete, click on the Exit button. Then, restart your computer.
9. Test the installation by clicking on the desktop shortcut labeled, MDL CrossFire Commander V7.

Online tutorials and downloadable handouts for MDL CrossFire are available online at the Elsevier MDL Learning Center. You will need to sign up for your own username and password by clicking on Your Profile.
